The Taipa old village is the historical center of Taipa. It is now a mix of residential and tourists, with lots of shops and restaurants. It is a great place to take a walk.

On the far east side of Taipa old village, between Rua direita Carlos Eugenio and Avenida de Carlos da Maia, is the Calcada do Carmo. These are a photogenic set of steps leading up to the Largo do Carmo.

At the Largo do Carmo, you will also find the Our Lady of Carmel Church, library, and Carmel Garden.

The tourist areas have lots of signs pointing to the areas of interest. The signs are often in Chinese, Portuguese, and English.

On the west side of Taipa old village is the Historical Museum of Coloane and Taipa. It is small, but at MOP$5 it is well worth a visit. It is across the street from the Tin Hau Temple, and the Rua Gov Tamagnini Barbosa which leads to the historical Vila da Taipa gate.

At one end of the Taipa old village is the old gate. This used to be on the shore, at the entry way to the old village. There is a rotunda and a large rock with an inscription. This is now across the street from the Galaxy Casino. The inscription on the rock reads "Tin Hau Temple tax location". The Chinese characters on the gate say "Taipa".

Pak Tai Temple and plaza. Heading down Rua da Sao Joao. The area is still a mix of residential, restaurants, and shops catering to tourists. Most of the homes are still lived in, but some are held on to for the land, or to be redeveloped.

Rua do Cunha is the main road for restaurants and shops, with the Taipa Flea Market plaza on one end, and a plaza next to Rua Direita Carlos Eugenio on the other. Lots of sidewalk mosaics here.
